 Community Campaign.</strong></p>\n<p><strong></strong><br /><strong><i>F
ive years ago\, despite the local community's opposition\, the Royal Par
k School in Hyde Park was closed down. Despite assurances from the counc
il that the building would be kept as a community space\, the building r
emains empty and falling ever further into disrepair. Throughout this ti
me\, the Royal Park Community Consortium has campaigned - so far unsucce
ssfully - for ownership of the building\, and a new bid is to be submitt
ed this month. In the meantime\, a three-week occupation of the building
in November by local residents drew massive support from across the who
le of this very diverse community and beyond. Thousands of pounds worth
of repairs were carried out by volunteers\, and workshops\, social event
s and activities were organised in the school and grounds\, demonstratin
g the potential for the building to become a hub for community organisin
 g\, education and skill-sharing\, strengthening&nbsp\;social relations a
nd tapping the diverse skills and enthusiasms in the local area.</i></st
